In 1928 Jacob Ritter founds Ritter, a company specialising in the production of boxes; the manufacture and sale of wooden boxes for the Opel automotive factory and the mineral water industry.

The Great Depression of 1929 forces the company to restructure itself in 1932 and Jacob begins to process thermoplastic boxes and cases for razors and jewellery.

After the war carpentry is re-established, producing wardrobes, chests and cabinets for television sets. During this period special attention is also paid to processing modern day plastics, manufacturing products such as buttons and cigarette holders.

In 1948 ballpoint pens and ink refill cartridges are manufactured as promotional items for the major German trade fairs, the Frankfurt Spring Fair and the Hanover Fair in 1949. Up until 1950 only pen bodies have been produced but in 1956 the first ballpoint pen with plastic mechanics comes onto the market. The 60s are dominated by the company’s expansion, buildings are constructed for injection moulding and tool making.

1972 marks the “Birth” of our legendary 280 ballpoint pen, leading the way and establishing new standards in the writing instrument industry.
